“But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead. He’s the first crop of the harvest of those who have died. Since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead came through one too. In the same way that everyone dies in Adam, so also everyone will be given life in Christ.”
- 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 (CEB)
For most people, Easter has come and gone. We are now focused on the season of spring and the coming of summer. However, we are still in the season of Easter. We are in the middle of the time celebrating Jesus’ resurrection and the life he lived here on earth before his ascension. Easter hasn't come and gone, but it is still just as much Easter today as it was on Easter Sunday!
On Easter Sunday, we celebrated the foundational truth that our faith is grounded in, Jesus’ resurrection from the dead! Jesus got up and walked out of his own grave! How radical is that? We base our faith on the fact that God’s Son rose from the dead! He is the first crop of the harvest of those who have died. This means that Jesus’ resurrection is the pattern that we as believers will soon follow when Jesus returns to complete the restoration of all creation. As believers in Jesus Christ, we have been promised a place in the resurrection and given eternal life with Christ.
Jesus is the one who brings us new life and a promise of resurrection. New and eternal life had to come through a human being. This is because death for all humanity was brought by a human as well. Through the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, all humanity became stained with sin and were separated from God. Because of this, redemption also had to come through a human, which is why Jesus, God’s only Son, had to die as the payment for our sins. Not only did Jesus die, but he rose from the grave. He rose to a new life and promises us the same. Just as all people are born spiritually dead because of Adam and Eve, so are all people who believe in Jesus Christ are given new life.
Go and spread the good news of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. Easter is not over. We are called to spread the news of Easter every day, so don’t stop celebrating! Spend each day remembering that our faith is founded on what happened on that first Easter morning, let others know about it, and look forward to the promised new life and resurrection someday for all who believe!
